Communications System: Messages - File Attachment Feature
We understand the importance of seamless communication between educators, parents, and students, and that's why we're excited to announce the addition of a long-awaited feature — the ability to attach files to emails directly within our communication tools!
How to Use Attachments
Adding attachments is straightforward. While drafting a message in our communication platform, simply select the Add attachments option to include your document, then send your message as you normally would.
Upon clicking the button, a popup for adding attachments will appear, enabling the upload of documents either directly from your computer or from Google Drive or OneDrive.
Attachment limits
Messages containing content sent via email have a maximum attachment limit of 5 MB.
For messages where the content is exclusively within the portal, the attachment limit is 500 MB.
Supported file types
Supported file types include: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .ppt, .pptx, .gif, .png, .jpeg.
Microsoft Teams: Assignments - Overview functionality
We're responding to the request for an overview feature within Microsoft Teams: Assignments. As one of the first education software solutions to make Microsoft Teams Assignments available to parents, we were originally restricted by the information available in the API and therefore were only able to pull through assignment details on request.
This did not enable us to store this data and prevented us from displaying a summary view. Now, we're pleased to upgrade our Microsoft Teams Assignments integration, aiming to enrich the user experience with a comprehensive overview of all assignments.
This update will display details in the Assignments list, such as the status of each student's assignments, enabling parents and staff to quickly ascertain what's due or completed.
Sync criteria for Teams data
For a class to be displayed it needs to have enrolled students and must not be archived.
To establish a connection between students and a class, we will compare the student's email address in MSP with either userPrincipalName or mail in the Microsoft API.
Similarly, to associate staff with a class, we will correlate the staff's email address in MSP with either userPrincipalName or mail in the Microsoft API.
Assignments can only be linked to a class if the assignment was created within the past 12 months.
This integration empowers schools to provide guardians with a consolidated overview of their child's assignments and homework. It ensures informed tracking of progress and active engagement in supporting their child's academic journey. Schools gain increased control over the integration, eliminating the need for contacting support to set up.
Setup instructions
There is a new admin tool manager called Microsoft Teams Assignments under the General section.
Grant MSP permission to Microsoft Teams Assignments data, requiring Admin status in Microsoft Teams.
Once permissions have been granted and our syncs have been completed, the admin tool will display the classes that have been imported along with the list of staff and students in that class.
In the content manager, enable Use Assignment Overview Interface to allow Guardians access.
To allow Guardians to access this information on the frontend there is a new option within the content manager called Use Assignment Overview Interface that needs to be checked.
Guardian view
Guardians gain an overview of all assignments, filterable by class, status, and default academic year date range. The interface features two tabs — Outstanding and Completed.
Additionally, the option to reveal detailed information for each assignment will display additional insights, including any marks or teacher feedback, provided the corresponding options are chosen in the content manager.
SOCS Sports Fixtures - Display Meet Time & Start Time
In July 2022, we implemented a change to use the Meet Time as the primary time display across various system areas. However, this led to inconsistencies in behaviour and alignment with SOCS. After careful consideration, user feedback, and discussions with SOCS, we are reverting to using the Start Time as the primary time display.
What's changing
The Start Time will now be the main time displayed on the day planner, the calendar, and sports fixtures.
Exports and event subscriptions will reflect these changes, ensuring data consistency.
Admin and export areas will retain the additional columns introduced, providing extra information without reverting to previous states.
For schools that use the "one-to-one" sports fixture-to-event option: A new summary format will list all times (Meet, Start, Tea, Return) for a given event on the event list page. If a specific time is not applicable, its label will be omitted.
New option: For schools who don't want the summary text with the other dates, there is a new option called import_event_summary false. Please contact support to enable this option on your portal.
On the Day planner, all times will be displayed (Meet, Start, Tea, Return).

This enhancement ensures that MSP maintains a comprehensive list of all students associated with a given club. These lists, accessible via a student group, can be utilised for various purposes, including communications to ensure accurate contact with the relevant individuals.
SOCS Events Integration – Further Logic Improvements
This update improves the logic available for our SOCS Events integration and provides an additional option to ignore Schools if Schools and Year Groups are present in the feed.
Ignore Schools if event has year groups option: If an event has year groups within the Category or Schools field, this will only pull through the year group.

YouTube - Multiple YouTube Pages for different Channels
The portal now supports the addition of multiple YouTube pages, each linked to a distinct YouTube channel.

iSAMS API Student Timetables - Include Set Code
A new feature has been introduced to display set/tutor codes from iSAMS within the student timetable on the Day Planner page. New admin tool options are available to show the Set/Tutor Code.
Admin Tool options:
📌Note: These options will need to be enabled for the new codes to be displayed.
Sanctions - Hide Teacher Comments option
To increase the flexibility for schools using the Sanctions feature, we are implementing a new option to hide teacher comments from the Sanctions page if required.
Document Permissions for Staff update
Following feedback on Document Permissions changes from Release Cycle 82, we are introducing enhancements to improve staff access to documents without year-group restrictions.
New option in the Documents Permissions section: A tickbox next to the Staff option labelled Restricted to selected groups. Subtext: "This allows staff users to ignore the year groups/house restrictions when viewing this document."
Visual indicator: When the tickbox is unticked, the Staff box appears green — indicating all staff can access the document. When ticked, the Staff box appears orange — indicating only some staff can access the document.
Frontend update: The front end has been updated to reflect these new permissions.
📌Note: All documents with Staff permissions won't be restricted by the year group or house restrictions for staff. Other user-type permissions will not be affected. This will match the pre-Release 82 functionality; however, once released you will be able to use the new staff permission option.
Icon updates
We have revamped the icons used throughout the portal, encompassing both the fixed and administrator-selected icons. These updates extend to the icon picker in the admin tools, providing schools with the ability to choose and implement the newly introduced icons. We now support icons for social media platforms X (Twitter) and Threads.
